Get Moving With the Little Rock Marathon’s Silly Summer Virtual Challenge

Usually, at this point in the year, we’d be sharing announcements about the theme for the upcoming Little Rock Marathon, but 2020 is anything but usual. Instead, we’ve got some running news that’s a little unexpected, but spirit-lifting all the same.

The Little Rock Marathon CICs — that’d be the Chicks in Charge — launched the Silly Summer Virtual Challenge this week, kicking off six weeks of ridiculousness. Participants are invited to run or walk a weekly assigned distance paired with a silly challenge (think: running with something on your head).

Here’s how it works:

  • Register. For $25, you get entered to the challenge and some swag. You can also just get the swag, consider it a donation and not have to leave your couch.
  • Go. Run or walk (or a combination of both) anywhere at any time for the suggested mileage while undertaking that week’s challenge.
  • Log. Submit your best time for the week into the virtual results database by Sunday at 10 p.m. Your distance has to be at least as long as that week’s recommended distance, but can be longer.
  • Post. Head to social media to share proof you completed that week’s challenge using #SillySummerChallenge or #LRMarathon.

According to the CICs, participants will be competing for “made-up points, obscure prizes and fleeting social media glory,” because of course.

The challenge runs from July 13 – Aug. 23. For more information and to register, head to the Little Rock Marathon website.
