The 2015 UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Gala for Life was presented by the Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Foundation and chaired by Dr. Carl and Patricia Johnson. In honor of the event’s 20th anniversary, the gala payed tribute to all cancer survivors. A special Monarch butterfly release in the H.U. Lee International Garden remembered those who have lost their battles with cancer. During the black-tie evening at the Statehouse Convention Center, guests enjoyed a variety of special entertainment, including a live painting demonstration, music by the String Angels and dancing to the Groove Merchants. The four-course dinner consisted of seared scallops with sweet pea puree; berry salad with a raspberry vinaigrette; pan seared Chilean sea bass with lemon thyme jus and five-spiced lamb chop with mint tomato chutney with sides of creamed spinach and sweet potato soufflé; and blueberry cheesecake with chocolate butterfly garnish and lavender macaroon with honey filling. Glazer’s provided wines with dinner. The event raised more than $1 million, the net proceeds of which benefit the Lung Cancer Program and other cancer initiatives at the WRCI.
