Folk Duet ‘Silo’ Playing at Reno’s Argenta Cafe Tonight

Female folk duet “Silo” brings their summer tour of the southeast to central Arkansas tonight (July 8) at 9 p.m. at Reno’s Argenta Cafe, 312 Main St. in North Little Rock.

Now based in Tallulah, La., The duet includes Arkansas native Jennifer Jeffers along with her partner, Renee Arozqueta of Pensacola, Fl.

“We’re not quite bluegrass, but we have a banjo. We’re not quite old-time, but we have a folk accordion, and we’re not quite traditional folk because our song-writing is modern. We can harmonize some lovely things,” Jeffers said.

The tour, which started in New Orleans and ends in Monroe, La. on Aug. 2, features songs from their new album, “Tall Tales.” The full tour schedule can be viewed here.

What can those in attendance expect Silo to sound like?

“My favorite artists are the Carolina Chocolate Drops,” Jeffers said. “Renee loves early Modest Mouse and the gritty underbelly of anti-folk and 90’s bands. I think Silo has the grassy elements of The Avett Brothers, the melodic qualities of First Aid Kit and the song-writing style of Regina Spektor, but our magic is our harmonies that swing, blend and sway through all of our songs.”

Both Jenn and Renee play every one of the instruments that they bring on stage, including the banjo, accordion, glockenspiel, drum, hi-hat and guitar- all while singing! They say it helps keep them and the audience on their toes.
