Tucked away in Pleasant Plains is a family-owned farm called Five Acre Farms. The farm is the passion project of Brandon and Cat Gordon. Founded in 2009, the couple turned what began as a small piece of land into a larger operation with multiple greenhouses.
The farm offers a farmshare, also known as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), which is a partnership between growers and eaters. CSA customers pay for their vegetables in advance so local farmers have the capital needed to begin the season. In turn, when the CSA begins, customers receive a weekly (or bi-weekly) box of fresh, Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) produce for the entire growing season. And you can rest easy knowing that all of Five Acre Farms’ produce is grown without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers or genetically modified organisms.
Five Acre Farms fall farmshare starts during the week of Sept. 16 and runs for 10 weeks with weekly and bi-weekly options available. Each box contains a selection of fresh seasonal produce harvested from the farm accompanied by a farm newsletter that includes farm news, recipes and storage tips.
And there’s no need to travel to Pleasant Plains to pick up your produce. Local pick up locations include:
- Heifer International in Little Rock: Thursdays 4:30-6 p.m.
- Squizito Tasting Room in Cabot: Thursdays 4-5:30 p.m.
