Firehouse Hostel & Museum to Host Soft Opening

The wait is over. Yes, you heard that right. The long-awaited Firehouse Hostel & Museum is about to open its doors to the public for a soft opening on Aug. 18. The hostel, housed within the 1917 Craftsman-style refurbished Little Rock Firehouse Station #2 at 1201 Commerce St. in the MacArthur Park Historic District, will be the first hostel in the capital city.

The glory days of the fire station came to an end in 1957 and the building was converted and used as a storage facility for the Arkansas Military Museum and as offices for Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department. Since 2006, members of Hostelling Arkansas, Inc. have worked with the city and community to raise funds to gut and renovate the old fire station. The new Firehouse Hostel & Museum will house guests and hostellers from around the world and has a firefighter museum, to boot.

In the beginning, you’ll be able to book a stay in one of 36 bunks at the hostel on Airbnb for a cool $31 per night. Some of the amenities of the hostel include a washer/dryer, free Wi-Fi, a kitchen, free parking and complimentary breakfast.

Firehouse Hostel & Museum is adding another dash of affordability and history to a growing downtown Little Rock, and we wholeheartedly approve.
