The final installation of Thea Foundation’s 2024 Art Department series will feature the work of Rex DeLoney in an exhibition titled “The Soul of Color.”
An opening reception will be held this Thursday, Nov. 7, from 5-7:30 p.m. The exhibit, which showcases mixed media paintings that “explore emotional energy through the use of intense color and symbolism,” will be on display at the Argenta gallery through November.
“The Soul of Color” compositions are created using an Abstract Realism technique in which abstract mixed media backgrounds are painted and figurative works or portraits are painted on top. In his exhibit, DeLoney focuses on storytelling, symbolism and spirituality by using creative colors to reach the viewer emotionally and spiritually. Works in the exhibition span a variety of genres and subjects from themes of spirituality to everyday people. The “Hallway” series focuses on the stories of students DeLoney interacts with in his job as a teacher at Little Rock Central High School.
DeLoney resides in Little Rock, where he returned to in 2004 after beginning his career in sports illustration as a commercial artist in the Pacific Northwest. His sports paintings were published in Beckett Football and Beckett Basketball magazines in the 1990s. His work can be found in several galleries and private collections in the U.S.
