Filmland Festival Pivots to Drive-In and Digital Experiences

2020, among other things, is the year of socially distanced movie watching, and the Arkansas Cinema Society (ACS) is rolling with the times for its annual Filmland festival.

ACS announced the Oct. 1-3 film festival will go the drive-in theater route, hosted at the new MP Outdoor Cinema complete with food trucks and classic movie concessions. The 180-car lot boasts a 36-foot screen where attendees will watch four nights of selected films and Q&As with the filmmakers.

Drive-in tickets are not yet available, but will be $20 per car for ACS members and $40 per car for non-members.

ACS members also have the option to experience Filmland digitally from home with native Apple TV, Roku and Android TV apps, including computers and mobile devices. Membership is currently $50 for the year and features discounts and exclusive access to year-round events.

Filmland is in its fourth year and has two sectors: the non-competitive curated program selected by the pros, and the Arkansas program featuring selected submissions of films made by Arkansans or made in Arkansas and includes an audience favorite award.

Past festival screenings included “Toy Story 4,” “Free Solo,” “Operation Finale,” “Antiquities,” “Boy Erased” and “Stranger Things.”
