Family Matters: Bonnie Robertson of the Robertson Law Firm

Honestly, I chose to practice family law because the summer before I started law school, I married a man who had a child from a previous relationship. Early in my marriage, dealing with the dynamics of a “blended” family, I became passionate about the rights of fathers in family law. As I have matured, personally and professionally, and as my stepdaughter has grown into a wonderful, well-adjusted young woman, I continue to improve the skills and perspective it takes to guide both fathers and mothers through the turmoil that is family law. And I love it.

I began my law firm as a solo practitioner working part-time. For the first five years, I stayed home with my two young children every other day, returning phone calls during their naps. Ten years later, I have two children that have never missed their mom, as well as three full-time office locations, two associate attorneys, and four staff members.

Average Case
The length and cost depend on the type of case. We at Robertson Law Firm do not bill hourly. We quote a flat fee in order to instill security and predictability in our fee structures for our clients. It works great, and it prevents any mistrust or the appearance of gouging or padding the bill.

My Advice
When in doubt, don’t. When not in doubt, put your kids’ interests first. Property and money are replaceable. Don’t screw up your kids — that’s usually permanent.
