The South has a thing about guns. Despite where you land in the conversation, that fact is undeniable. To add to that conversation, Drawl Southern Contemporary Art, one of the newest galleries in Little Rock, is teaming up with Oxford American magazine to flex their artistic muscles with a new regional art competition and exhibition called “The Gun Show.”
It started with a question: “What does the visual presence of guns suggest to you?” From there, artists worked their magic to depict “the historical and cultural role of guns and their place in our society” as part of this multidiscipline exhibition. Judging the event is the curator for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Chad Alligood.
“The Gun Show” will be on display at Drawl from May 21-June 17, but it all kicks off with a celebration on Friday, May 20, at Cache in downtown Little Rock. The evening begins with a VIP party and awards ceremony at 5 p.m. where guests can meet Alligood and the participating artists. The night continues with the opening reception at 6 p.m. complete with hors d’ oeuvres by Chef Payne Harding and specialty cocktails.
Tickets for both the VIP and opening reception are available now. Click here to get yours, or call (501) 680-1871. As an added bonus, a portion of the event’s proceeds will go toward Oxford American programs and outreach.
Drawl’s gallery hours are 11 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday. To learn more about “The Gun Show,” check out the gallery’s website or the Facebook event page.
