Experience 100 Years of Shoes at Esse Purse Museum’s Newest Exhibit

You know that feeling when you realize you’re not quite sure how long you’ve been scrolling through the shoe section of your favorite online retailer and drooling over the new additions? The latest Esse Purse Museum temporary exhibit is like that, only way better.

A Walk In Her Shoes is for the footwear lover in Little Rock as it brings 50 pairs from both Esse’s collection and the Fashion History Museum in Cambridge, Ontario. The temporary exhibit features pieces from the 1900s that mark the biggest trends in women’s shoes in Europe and North America — trends in everything from style and silhouette to material and function.

Visitors will see the Victorian lace-up leather boots and punk platforms of yore, including those from designers like Christian Dior, Bally, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent, plus many more.

And the best part is that this exhibit isn’t just about looking at pretty things. According to a press release, Esse has more in mind:

“The museum hopes it will also raise questions about women’s evolving mobility, social positions and expressive choices in the public sphere.”

You go, Esse.

A Walk In Her Shoes runs Oct. 11-Jan. 15. The Esse Purse Museum is located at 1510 Main St. and store hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 10 a.m.– 3 p.m. Sunday.
