Fresh, local produce isn’t always the easiest to come by, but Heifer International and Foodshed Farms are working to change that through their now open 2014 fall CSA program.
Their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) summer program helped “re-ignite the competition among small-scale Arkansas farmers and strengthen our community by connecting you to the land and local farmers,” according to Heifer.
If you’re unfamiliar with a CSA program, here’s the gist: You buy a “share,” you get organic, seasonal produce from local farmers. You can even get meat, too. Shareholders can pick up their produce weekly and meats monthly at various designated locations around Little Rock.
CSA programs make the idea of “shop local” even more realistic and obtainable. Shares are limited, however, so don’t wait to get yours.
