Drink Up: 5 Places to Sip This Weekend

The weekend is here and for those who are looking for a nice repreive from the madness and maybe get an early start to Mardi Gras, a few spots in the area offer a chance to get away from it all.

Here is a look at five places to enjoy a beverage of your choice:

  1. Craft Beer at The Joint, 301 Main St., Suite 2, North Little Rock: If you’ve had a long week and need a good laugh, Argenta’s The Joint can probably help. Take in one of their performances of their current show “Winter Sucks!” put on by the comedy troupe The Main Thing, while downing one of a few fabulous craft beers that are bottled and on tap, including Core Brewery, Scrimshaw, Diamond Bear, Tommyknocker and Lazy Magnolia, as well as New Belgium and Schafley. Or, if beer isn’t your thing– have a glass of wine, one of their cocktails or even a non-alcoholic coffee drink. The theater/bar/coffee shop offers drink specials throughout the week. Tickets for the show (8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15) are $20 and tickets can be reserved here
  2. Fabulous Cocktails at South on Main, 1304 S. Main St., Little Rock: We absolutely love this refined spot in the SoMa district– not only is the gourmet fare pretty incredible, but the expert mixologists on staff have created a top-notch lineup of delicious original cocktails, ranging from Rosemary’s Baby (Good Mezcal, Benedictine, pineapple, rosemary and heat) to Whiskey Rebellion (Dickle Rye, Cherry Heering, American Vermouth and OJ). You also can’t forget about their classic drinks such as the Mint Julep, Old-Fashioned and Tom Collins. Check out the full menu of drinks here!
  3. Wine at Zin Urban Wine and Beer Bar, 300 River Market Ave., Suite 1, Little Rock: Work in downtown Little Rock? Swing by the ultra-hip bar for glass of vino after work. Choose from a slew of reserves, whites (Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and bubbles) and reds (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Ports). Pair with one of the delicious apps, such as French olive mix, white bean hummus, stuffed figs or gourmet mixed nuts. For a Saturday night adventure, the bar offers couples a date night dinner special that includes the “A Little This, A Little That Platter” and a bottle of house wine for $40. Stick around for an intimate live concert, happening every Saturday night. Check out the menu and get more information here.
  4. Learn How to Make Whiskey at Rock Town Distillery, 1216 E. 6th St., Little Rock: The award-winning distillery has a pretty stellar lineup of vodka, gin, rum, moonshine (Apple Lightning, anyone?) and most notably, whiskey. Get the inside scoop on the distillery, located just a hop, skip and jump away from the Clinton Presidential Center and Heifer International, during one of its tours of the facility. Learn about the process of making spirits, the origins of bourbon whiskey, what makes vodka and what gin exactly is, and get a chance to try all of their offerings at the end of the 45-minute tour. Tours ($7) are offered at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. Purchase a bottle of their stuff while you’re there, too– yes, you can buy bottles there on Sunday! Get more info here.
  5. Margaritas and tacos at Chuy’s, 16001 Chenal Pkwy., Little Rock: For a more casual outing, the super-popular Chuy’s in west Little Rock is just the ticket. This Mexican joint serves up fresh drinks to order, including their famous margarita made with fresh-squeezed lime juice. Have it on the rocks or frozen in lime, strawberry or swirl & dot! Enjoy it with Baja Tacos or Tacos Al Carbon and don’t forget chips and dip! Check out the full menu here.
