The Arkansas Cinema Society continues to up its programming with two leading female producers.
The Dreamland Film Series kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 28th, with a two-episode screening of HBO’s “Insecure.” Following the screening, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. and columnist Philip Martin will moderate a panel discussion on black voices in cinema featuring “Insecure” producer Deniese Davis and “Enlightened” producer Jayme Lemons.
“Little Rock is working hard to build a vibrant arts community that is welcoming to everyone. I believe that a thriving film community can change the narrative of our state. We hope to become one of the leaders in the South in this effort,” Scott said.
Davis got her start in entertainment by producing indie low-budget projects including music videos, short films and digital content. In the web-series realm, she is best known for producing Issa Rae’s award-winning web series “The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl.” She is currently a producer on the HBO comedy series “Insecure” with Rae and an executive producer on the upcoming HBO limited series “The Dolls.”
Lemons is an Arkansas native and television and film producer with two decades of experience in the entertainment industry. Lemons oversaw feature development at Courteney Cox’s production company, Coquette, before moving on to produce the critically acclaimed HBO series, “Enlightened” with Laura Dern. Afterward, Lemons and Dern founded their production company, Jaywalker Pictures.
“One of the primary missions of the Arkansas Cinema Society is to seek out and lift up the voices of those who are often overlooked and bring them to audiences that might otherwise not have the opportunity to hear them,” Scott said. “The launch of our Dreamland Film Series is a step in the right direction.”
The screening and discussion will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. at Philander Smith M.L. Harris Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. For more info, head to the ACS website.
