We love when the temperatures start to lower, and we all get excited about all the fun the month of October brings. What probably doesn’t come to mind first, is the effect of those lower temperatures on people who can’t go warm up at home.
The Van, a basic needs distributer on wheels serving the Little Rock homeless population, is on it. Over the past few years, The Van has teamed up with none other than YouTube sensation Kid President to raise funding for a women’s shelter. Last year, over two million people from all over the world took part in helping out their local communities as well as lending a hand to ours here in Little Rock.
Socktober is in full effect once again this year, and you can help just by donating a few pairs of new socks. You can also designate a box in your workplace and encourage the whole office to give.
Are you loyal to a different homeless shelter or service organization? Awesome! Don’t feel obligated to give to one place; they’re all on the same team. If you’re not sure where you should donate, click here for a directory.
So while you’re at the store, go ahead and snag a six-pack of crew cuts, or whatever style fits your foot fancy. And don’t stop at socks. Gather other basic items to donate as well. For some inspiration, here’s The Van’s list of current needs.
Help spread the word with #socktober. For more information check out the Socktober website, and follow The Van on Facebook for updates.
