Bust out the birthday candles. Domestic Domestic is another year older.
The Heights shop opened in June 2014 at 5501 Kavanaugh Blvd. as a housewares and menswear store dedicated to selling American-made products. Over the years, Domestic Domestic shelves have seen everything from canoe paddles and lawn chairs to skincare and candles.
“My passion is introducing conscientious shoppers to the companies, brands and makers that ethically believe in quality,” owner Heather Smith told Soirée in her 2015 Woman to Watch feature. “Every day I am grateful for customers who choose to essentially vote with their shopping dollar for the country in which they want to live. I love doing my part on what I believe is the next chapter in America for manufacturing, and thus, for community and lifestyle. We all have a role to play.”
Back in 2014, they kicked things off a week-long celebration with an old fashioned fish fry. They’ve since kept up the good eats tradition each year and this time around is no different. Domestic Domestic will begin it’s third year with a barbecue social at 5 p.m. this Thursday, May 19, with Whole Hog Café and Lost Forty Brewing, plus some pretty sweet prizes.
The shop has also been giving away stuff on Instagram over the past few weeks, so follow along for your chance to get in on the goods. You can peruse Domestic Domestic’s offerings on their website, or check them out on Facebook for updates.
Happy birthday, friends!
