Donnie Ferneau of The 1836 Club
(Defending his title in the final round)
How long have you been cooking?
A little over 20 years.
You’ve won this competition more times than any other chef. What’s your secret weapon?
I’ve learned over the years of competing that over-thinking and over-planning your execution can pigeonhole you and be your demise. Roll with the punches — there’s always an element of surprise. Treat it like a busy dinner service with your loved ones at the chef’s table.
What made you want to become a chef?
I learned about my passion for food at a young age, cooking with my younger brother. As I got older the passion grew, and it came naturally to me. The rest is history.
What is your perfect meal?
My Mom’s chicken and dumplings followed by Grandma Miller’s strawberry rhubarb pie.
