It’s time to break out the spandex, folks. Cranksgiving is back.
Part bike ride, part food drive and part scavenger hunt, this local event already has a strong fan base even though it’s only in it’s second year (though it originated in New York back in 1999). Unlike other rides, there’s no set route or entry fee; all you have to do is complete a list of tasks around town before the other competing teams in the spirit of Thanksgiving.
What kind of tasks are we talking about, exactly? Some revolve around purchasing non-perishable goods or performing random acts or kindness, while others are just pure fun. For instance, your list may require a photo of a teammate shaking hands with a bearded stranger or of the sign of a specific grocery store, before buying a short list of groceries from the store—all real requirements from last year’s competitors.
But don’t worry, you only need about $10-15 for purchasing items. And did we mention there are prizes? There are a lot of prizes, and that doesn’t include a healthy conscience. Donations will go to local food pantries to help out our hungry neighbors.
Cranksgiving 2015 takes place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. For more information, check out the Cranksgiving Facebook page or follow them on Twitter.
