Clinton Center to Host Free Program Celebrating Anne Frank

The Clinton Presidential Center will celebrate the life and legacy of Anne Frank during a special program with author and speaker Gillian Walnes Perry. The free program called “The Surprising Global Legacy of Anne Frank” will take place at the Clinton Center on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Perry will discuss how Frank’s story resonates around the world and how various Anne Frank educational projects have impacted some of the world’s most turbulent and violent regions. A book signing will follow the conversation and copies of Perry’s book, “The Legacy of Anne Frank,” will be available for purchase through the Clinton Museum Store online.

Perry co-founded the Anne Frank Trust UK in 1990, a partner organization of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Her book, published in 2018, explores the surprising influence Anne Frank‘s life has had on young people all over the world.

The program is held in conjunction with the Anne Frank Tree Installation. In 2009, the Clinton Center, in partnership with the Sisterhood of Congregation B’nai Israel, was one of 11 entities in the U.S. to receive a sapling taken from the actual chestnut tree outside Anne Frank’s Secret Annex where she and her family hid during World War II and helped remind her there was still beauty in the world outside the attic window.

The Anne Frank Tree Installation consists of five framed, etched glass panels surrounded by natural landscaping. The two front panels feature quotes from Anne Frank and President Clinton. The three additional panels tell the stories of complex moments in Arkansas history including the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and the Little Rock Central High School desegregation crisis of 1957.

The evening’s events begins at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Reserve your spot by calling (501) 748-0425 or click here.
