Happy Cinco de Mayo!
The holiday originated with the Mexican-American communities as a way to commemorate the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. Today, the date is observed as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
If you’re in the market to celebrate, central Arkansas has no shortage of places to hit up. See what made our list:
- Cantina Laredo, 207 N. University Ave., Suite 130, Little Rock: If you’re wanting quench your thirst, this upscale Mexican joint located in the Midtowne Shopping Center in Little Rock, may be just the ticket. It recently announced on its Facebook page that it has two new margaritas on its menu just in time for the big celebration: the Pop-a-‘Rita, a strawberry rocks margarita creation made with Cabo Wabo Silver, Cointreau and fresh lime juice and the Cinco Mas ‘Rita, which costs $11.50 and features Maestro Dobel, Cabo Wabo, Giro and Hornitos tequilas with Cointreau and a sidecar of Patron. - Moe’s Southwest Grill, multiple locations in central Arkansas: The fast-casual Mexican spot is going “Cinco de Moe’s” with $5 burritos all day and here is something cool: they are introducing their new spicy guacamole and offering a sneak preview by treating guests to a free 2 oz. serving all day. Additionally, the first 50 people per restaurant will receive a free Cinco de Moe’s T-shirt. Find your nearest location and get more info here!
- Local Lime, 17815 Chenal Pkwy., Little Rock: This hoppin’ taco and margarita bar, located at the Promenade at Chenal shopping center, will be a prime spot for Cinco de Mayo. Grab one of their fabulous cocktails or margaritas, munch on chips and salsa and feast on some of their amazing tacos (our favorite is the carnitas- yum!). Be sure to check their Facebook page closer to time to see some of the specials they will have lined up!
- Chuy’s, 16001 Chenal Pkwy., Little Rock: Cinco de Mayo at Chuy’s means happy hour all-day long (not just 4-7 p.m.!) on Monday (May 5). Take advantage of the fully loaded nacho car where you can build your very own nachos (cheese dip, chips, toppings and more) all for free. Also sip on $4.25 house margaritas, $7.75 house Texas Martinis and $2.75 domestic beers from open at 11 a.m. to closing at 10 p.m. Call (501) 821-2489 for more information.
- Casa Mañana, 6820 Cantrell Road, Little Rock: This Mexican spot (one of my favorites in the capital city!) is the place to be if you’re looking for an authentic dinner. Start off with the most delicious chips and salsa ever while sipping on a ice-cold brew or yummy margarita. Cap it off with the Carne Asada dish or the Chili Colorado with beef.
