Central Arkansas Walk to End Alzheimer’s Takes Big Steps Toward a Cure

Time to break out the purple attire.

The central Arkansas Walk to End Alzheimer’s is kicking off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Argenta Plaza, marking the first time the event has ever been held in North Little Rock. 

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This fall, walk events will be held in nearly 600 communities across the country. Participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease, either in Argenta or virtually. 

“We are so excited to be able to host our Walk to End Alzheimer’s events to our community this year, and you can join us in person at Argenta Plaza or Walk From Home in your neighborhood,” says Kirsten Dickins, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association. “We look forward to celebrating with our long-time supporters and new participants to show our commitment to ending Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.”

While there is no fee to register for the walk, all participants are encouraged to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and a cure.

”Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a cause that is very near to my heart as I’ve had multiple family members who are either currently battling or have passed away from this terrible disease. We must come together as a community to find a cure,” says event co-chair Heide Harrell.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the Promise Garden opening ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. The garden allows participants to raise flowers representing their promise to remember, honor, care and fight for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.

“Now more than ever, Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and their families need help in finding a cure,” says co-chair Allison Cox.

Participants can register at alz.org/arwalk. The route will be open from 8:30 – 11 a.m. and people who opt to walk from home can use the mobile app. At the event, COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place including physical distancing, contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations and more.
