“It’s free sushi– if you love sushi you should be happy about this celebration,” said Yuen L. Yung, CEO of How Do You Roll?. “Let’s celebrate sushi on this great day.”
Customers can also enter a social media contest to win free How Do You Roll? gift cards by posting pictures of their International Sushi Day experience on social media and using the hashtag “#SUSHIDAY”.
International Sushi Day began as a Facebook group in 2009. Now, with just more than 2,000 Likes, a Wikipedia page and a few other website mentions, How Do You Roll? wants to enhance the reputation of the social media-created holiday.
How Do You Roll? offers a modern twist to the traditional Japanese cuisine. Upon entering the restaurant, consumers follow a line and build their own sushi rolls with many unique ingredient choices. Newcomers to sushi, and those who shy away from raw fish, will be surprised to find chicken and waffle rolls and dessert cones, whereas sushi aficionados can enjoy more typical-to-sushi options. How Do You Roll? also offers gluten-free and vegetarian ingredients.
“Most sushi joints are companies that serve sushi to people,” Yung said. “We are a company that serves people sushi. We serve freedom of choice and expression of individualism. Sushi is just the medium we use.”
Founded in Austin, Texas, by brothers Yuen and Peter Yung, How Do You Roll? is an Asian fast-casual franchise that began in 2008.
