CALS Summer Reading Club Kicks Off June 12

For book-loving adults, assembling a summer reading list is like crafting the perfect Christmas list as a kid. But if you haven’t created yours yet (or if you’re looking to double up), the Central Arkansas Library System is here to save the day.

On Monday, June 12, the CALS Summer Reading Club kicks off seven weeks of free programs and materials, along with special events and contests for all ages. This year’s activities will take place at various branches, and all revolve around the 2017 theme “Build a Better World,” which will focus on topics like conservation, volunteerism and ecology.

These are a few of the titles on the adult booklist:

  • “The Visitors” by Simon Sylvester
  • “Slade House” by David Mitchell
  • “Scary Close: Dropping the Act and Finding True Intimacy” by Donald Miller
  • “Humans of New York: Stories” by Brandon Stanton
  • “In the Unlikely Event” by Judy Blume
  • “Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls: A Handbook for Unapologetic Living” by Jes Baker
  • “Andy Warhol Was a Hoarder” by Claudia Kalb
  • “Bats of the Republic” by Zachary Thomas Dodson
  • “17 Carnations: The Royals, the Nazis, and the Biggest Cover-Up in History” by Andrew Morton
