Book lovers will soon have new shelves to peruse in downtown Little Rock.
The Central Arkansas Library System recently announced two of its spaces in the River Market — the Galleries at Library Square and the Bookstore at Library Square — will soon be under the same roof. The bookstore, which has called the Cox Building home since 2001, will join the art galleries next door inside the Bobby L. Roberts Library of Arkansas History & Art, where the combined retail space will operate under the title The Galleries at Library Square.
“We’re excited about what this new shopping experience will mean for library visitors, artists and the local economy,” said Debra Wood, manager of the Galleries at Library Square. “The Galleries are already a beautiful space and a popular site for art walks and holiday shopping, but the increased visibility in the River Market will allow us to showcase more of the books and handmade art that appeal to collectors as well as anyone who enjoys a stroll downtown.”
To help make room for the move, shoppers can score 50% off all books and 20% off all art through Saturday, Jan. 9. The bookstore will officially close Jan. 11 and will reopen in its new home Jan. 19.
And CALS has big plans for the vacated space in the Cox Building, which will be the headquarters for its Rock It! Lab program, a “learning and start-up hub” created in partnership with ReMix Ideas that promotes entrepreneurship.
