New flavors are coming to Hillcrest, and all signs point to a few familiar names in the local foodie scene.
A restaurant called Cafe Plain Jane will soon take over the former location of Cañon Grill (a casualty of the COVID pandemic) at 2811 Kavanaugh Blvd.
According to an Instagram post on Friday, June 6, Plain Jane will be “rooted in Southern simplicity” with a focus on “the basics,” describing itself as a “new cafe celebrating Southern simplicity with a fancy French flair.”
Readers will remember we first heard of new tenants for the 2,200-square-foot space in late 2024. Since then, rumors have swirled about its next era, including talk that it could be a new venture for a successful downtown restauranteur team.
Just last week our sister publication Arkansas Business reported Leila King had applied for a building permit for interior renovation at 2811 Kavanaugh. King and her sisters Helen Grace and Kamiya are the owners and operators of At the Corner and Flora Jean’s.
The King sisters reflected on a decade in the restaurant business in our May cover story, with Helen Grace teasing, “We’re very excited about the next decade.”
Menu details and a timeline have yet to be released. For updates, follow Plain Jane on Facebook and Instagram.
Update: The King sisters have since confirmed the news on social media.
