Richard H. Mays
Environmental
To Richard Mays, the “environment” includes everything that impacts our quality of life. He has spent much of his life attempting to preserve and protect not only the air, water and earth on which we live, but also the social, civic and human elements that make our lives richer, safer and more secure.
Mays has handled environmental cases protecting the Buffalo River from the impacts of hog farming, fighting construction of coal-fired electrical generating plants and opposing the use of the herbicide dicamba that kills native plant life.
He also fights for social and civic causes, including suing the state’s attorney general for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 national general election, the State of Arkansas over the unconstitutional use of taxes for school vouchers and the City of Little Rock over neglect of the historic Pike-Fletcher-Terry House in the Quapaw Quarter.
In doing so, Mays takes on federal and state agencies such as the Corps of Engineers and Departments of Transportation, entrenched political interests and utilities, chemical, oil, gas and pipeline companies and others that violate the rights of individuals and small entities.
