John Starling has long emphasized that “everything is a team effort” at JTS, a full-service insurance consulting firm headquartered in Little Rock. Starling, JTS founder and president, credits his dedicated and passionate team with the company’s tremendous growth in recent years, making it one of the largest independently owned and operated employee benefits firms in the region.
An attorney with a background in labor and employment law, Starling entered the employee benefits insurance industry in 1998 and has since launched or acquired multiple companies in the benefits arena. JTS is focused on specialized health insurance programs, outstanding customer service and providing savings to clients across a variety of industries, including large and small private businesses, nonprofits, associations, public school districts and municipalities.
JTS and its family of companies now operate in nine states with approximately 200 employees.
How is your service and focus different from your competition?
Simply put, we provide solutions to our clients that other brokers/consultants can’t or don’t want to do. Since we started, we have made it our mission to stay ahead of our customers’ needs and on the cutting edge of technology and service offerings, and we make the investments necessary to do just that. We now offer everything from consumer-directed health plans — like FSAs and HSAs — and self-funded plans to benefits administration systems, human resources consulting and turn-key bill reconciliation, as well as online and in-person benefits enrollment and employee education. We’ve also helped clients establish and manage health clinics to expand health care access for employees and control health plan costs.
We call this our “intentionally different” approach, and our team has taken it to heart. This customer focus shows in the incredible feedback we receive from our clients. We are always working to meet customer needs, and if that means we need to work a little harder and reinvest in our business to develop expanded service offerings, we will happily take on the challenge.
To what do you attribute your companies’ tremendous growth?
The growth of JTS and our associated companies over the past decade is primarily due to one thing: employees who share our client-focused philosophy. We have put together a dedicated and experienced team with members spread across 14 states who all believe in being “intentionally different” from anyone else in this industry.
We simply couldn’t maintain the level of service and success we expect without the team we’ve put in place. We’ve set very high expectations among our customers, and we meet and exceed those expectations only because everyone in our family of companies is passionate about our mission.
We take the time to have open and honest conversations with clients about what they and their employees really need. We aren’t here to push specific insurance companies or insurance products. We look out for the best interests of our clients, and we’re with them throughout the process, providing ongoing customer service with an eye toward helping them manage their health care costs.
