Ballet Arkansas Returns to the Stage With ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Ballet Arkansas will present the classic fairytale of “Sleeping Beauty” set to Tchaikovsky’s paramount score for its first show of the new year.

Poised to take the CHARTS Theater stage at UA-Pulaski Tech Feb. 16-19, the troupe will perform the pinnacle of classical ballet (which is seldom performed in Arkansas) alongside more than 100 community performers.

The magical storybook tale of princess Aurora and love’s triumph over the evil Carabosse is known and favored by generations all over the world.

“Sleeping Beauty is one of the most beloved productions of the classical era, and is perhaps the world’s most treasured tale,” says Michael Fothergill, executive and artistic director. “The ballet is a spectacle of classical technique, featuring brilliantly crafted choreography and pantomime. Infused with folklore and humor, the production really is perfect for balletomanes and young audiences alike.”

“Sleeping Beauty” performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased here.
