“Serenity of the Sparrow Prince” by Jeremy Colburn, 2024, acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, 36×36.
ABOUT THIS PIECE
“‘Serenity of the Sparrow Prince’ is a celebration of creative visualization. I loved playing outside as a kid and pretending to be an explorer in a far away land. This is a reminder to have fun and not take life too seriously.”
ARTIST STATEMENT
“As an artist, I draw inspiration from pop culture, photography, cinema and a hodge-podge of memories from my lived experiences. My preferred medium is acrylic paint, mostly paint pens, which allow me a limited palette of color and value, forcing me to work within self-defined constraints, which can have fun consequences.
“When painting, I strive to capture the extraordinary side of ordinary subject matter. My ideas are absorbed from a lot of different sources, and it all gets mentally pulverized into a visual slurry of kitsch, nostalgia and whimsy.
“As I interpret the world, I am processing my visions in my own way, and my goal is to tell you the story of what I see. My motivation to create candid and honest images used to be driven by a desire for validation from the world, but over time it has become more about the spiritual journey and the act of creation itself. I believe that I have only scratched the surface of what I am capable of as an artist, and I am constantly pushing myself to grow and evolve in my craft. My hope is that my art will inspire others to see the beauty in the world around them, and to approach their own creative endeavors with a sense of passion and wonder.”
