Ceramic incense holder, bowl and vase by Arshia Khan, speckled brown clay, simple white glaze (bowl).
ON THIS PIECE
“I loved working on each of the pieces in this image, but the vase in particular resonates with me. It was my first attempt at creating my own version of a Japanese ikebana, which is a vase used in the art of floral arrangement. I loved creating the deep grooves and waves within the clay, giving it a sense of femininity and earthiness. I left this piece unglazed because the iron speckles in the raw clay are just so beautiful.”
