‘Art of Fashion’ Newest Series at Arkansas Arts Center

You’ve seen the ruffled collars, the buckled shoes, the colorful tights and the poofy sleeves. Art gives us a keen look into the fashion realms that predate us and now the Arkansas Arts Center is launching a new lecture series dedicated to exactly that.

The series is called “Art of Fashion” — where distinguished guests will discuss the role of fashion in art, history and culture — and it begins with Renoir.

To dissect each stitch and hem, the AAC will welcome Gloria Groom, chair of European Painting and Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago and one of the world’s leading authorities on French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. She will cover many of Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s famous works, including “Madame Henriot in Costume,” which is currently on exhibit at the AAC in the Stephens gallery through Sept. 11.

The inaugural lecture will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, in the Arkansas Arts Center Lecture Hall. Show up early and enjoy a wine reception at 5:30 p.m. and hang around afterward for extended gallery, restaurant and gift shop hours until 9 p.m.
