Arlo Guthrie to Play at Oxford American’s Books, Bourbon & Boogie Gala

Cue “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree.”

The Oxford American announced that folk singer/songwriter Arlo Guthrie will be performing at this year’s Books, Bourbon & Boogie Gala on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at CALS Ron Robinson Theater.

Guthrie is doing a special Back By Popular Demand tour of his album “Alice’s Restaurant.” Proceeds from the event benefit the ongoing work of the Oxford American.

Guthrie is the son of Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazie Guthrie. Guthrie, now in his 70s, continues to tour, playing to crowds across the country. His song “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” is a stand-out hit lasting a little over 18 minutes. It tells the story of when Guthrie was arrested for littering, which led to him not being allowed into the army. The song came to be known as an anti-establishment anthem and is still broadcast widely today.

You can snag your tickets online or by calling (800) 293-5949. For more information and full details, head to the Oxford American’s website.
