In what appears to be a new tradition, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will once again open its season with a free concert, this time also taking advantage of the fresh fall air. The ASO will host “Winds at the Plaza” on Thursday, Sept. 22, at Argenta Plaza.
“Outdoor performances were very popular in 2020-2021, so we wanted to continue these events and return to indoor performances,” CEO Christina Littlejohn says. “A free concert for the community is our favorite way to start the season. Music sounds better when shared.”
The performance lineup features variations in wind, brass and percussion orchestration, including “Ancient Airs and Dances,” a piece by ASO Composer of the Year 2013-2014 Christopher Theofanidis, which premiered with the ASO in 2017.
“I love kicking off the season with a free outdoor concert,” Artistic Director Geoffrey Robson says. “Especially one featuring the ASO’s wind section performing a piece of music written just for them.”
The family-friendly show starts at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring chairs, blankets, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.
