The Central Arkansas Library System’s (CALS) Butler Center for Arkansas Studies kicks off its Arkansas Sounds Music Series this weekend, and the schedule is full of concerts and films covering all kinds of genres.
Here’s the summertime lineup.
“45RPM”
June 16, 7 p.m. at CALS Ron Robinson Theater (Free!)
A screening of a movie by Arkansan Juli Jackson. Filmed in Arkansas, “45RPM” highlights Arkansas’s unique musical history by showcasing local artists and featuring original music. The event includes live music from 6 – 7 p.m. by Adam Faucett, Whale Fire and Justin Vinson. A panel discussion will be held following the screening.
Dave Rosen Big Band
June 30, 7 p.m. at CALS Ron Robinson Theater (Free!)
Dave Rosen’s Big Band returns for a patriotic concert featuring jazz, swing and pop songs especially arranged for the big band.
40 Acres & a Block – A Spike Lee Tribute

- Concert: Rodney Block Collective concert featuring music from Lee’s films – July 14, 7 p.m., $10
Greasy Greens: An Hysterical Perspective (The Older We Get, The Better We Were)
July 28, 7 p.m. at CALS Ron Robinson Theater, $15
A reunion performance of the legendary Arkansas “Band of Opportunity.”
Dazz & Brie and the Emotionalz
Aug. 18, 7 p.m. at CALS Ron Robinson Theater, $10
The 2017 Arkansas Times Musicians Showcase winners, Dazz & Brie and the Emotionalz, will perform songs from their debut album “Can’t Afford California.”
Sounds in the Stacks
A series of piano concerts at CALS branches, Sounds in the Stacks highlights local keyboardists with different musical backgrounds. They showcase their talent and skill using a 7-foot, 6-inch Kawai GX-7 concert grand piano provided by Piano Kraft, the exclusive piano provider for Arkansas Sounds. All Sounds in the Stacks concerts are free.
