Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum Marks Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary

This December marks the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Services and memorials will be held across the country, and the one held in our own backyard has special ties to that fateful day.

Arkansas Remembers Pearl Harbor is a week of events scheduled for Dec. 5-11 Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock where two World War II ships still sit: the tugboat Hoga and the submarine USS Razorback. The USS Razorback was in Tokyo Bay when Japan surrendered and Hoga fought fires in the Pearl Harbor attack for 72 straight hours and is the last floating Navy vessel in existence that saw the attack.

The multiple events stretching over seven days will take place at various sites around the metro including exhibitions of WWII press photos at MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History and Norman Rockwell original posters at the Jacksonville Museum of Military History, with a formal ceremony and moment of silence scheduled for 11:48 a.m. Dec. 7, the local time of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

A full schedule of Arkansas Remembers Pearl Harbor events can be found on the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum’s website. Follow updates on the museum’s Facebook page or call (501) 340-5444 for more information.
