Back in March, we brought word of a new organization called the Arkansas Cinema Society that was teaming up with the likes of Little Rock native Jeff Nichols (writer and director behind “Loving” and “Mud”), Arkansas native Mary Steenburgen and a long list of film and local influencers.
Now, the ACS is stepping into the spotlight with its inaugural cinema event by bringing even more big names (think: galactic) to Little Rock. The three-day film festival includes screenings, Q&A sessions and after parties across the city.
Here’s your rundown.
Aug. 24
- 6:30 p.m. – “Patti Cake$” screening at Ron Robinson Theater
- Following the movie – Filmmaker conversation with Jeff Nichols and producer Noah Stahl
- 9:30 p.m. – Opening night party at Cache
Aug. 25
- 2 p.m. – “Paterson” screening at Ron Robinson Theater
- Following the movie – Filmmaker Conversation with Jeff Nichols and lead actor Adam Driver
- 7 p.m. – “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” screening at the Ron Robinson Theater
- Following the movie – Q&A with Jeff Nichols and “Kylo Ren” actor Adam Driver
- 9:30 p.m. – After party at Lost Forty with live music by Amasa Hines
Aug. 26
- 2 p.m. – “Pete’s Dragon” screening at Ron Robinson Theater
- Following the movie – Filmmaker Conversation with Jeff Nichols and director David Lowery
- 7 p.m. – “A Ghost Story” screening at Ron Robinson Theater
- Following the movie – Q&A with Jeff Nichols and director David Lowery
- 9:30 p.m. – Closing night Retro Arcade Party at Damgoode Pies in the River Market, live music by Dazz & Brie
The organization’s mission is “to build a film community in Arkansas where film lovers can watch films, share ideas, connect with each other and nurture the new and existing film talent within our state through increased exposure to filmmakers and their art.”
