Fire up the moving trucks.
The Arkansas Arts Center just announced a temporary move to 2510 Cantrell Road, the former location of the Walmart Neighborhood Market, during its upcoming renovation.
The 65,000-SF Riverdale Shopping Center space will be home to the Museum Shop, studio space for Museum School classes and design and rehearsal space for the Children’s Theatre as well as offices, facilities storage and educational programs.
“The Arts Center’s programs are a vital part of our community,” foundation board chairman Bobby Tucker said. “We feel it’s of maximum importance that they continue to be offered while the center is under construction. Our commitment to the success of this transformational building project in MacArthur Park is unwavering, as is our commitment to the organization.”
The AAC will be leaning on its newly-launched partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System to host exhibitions and events throughout the metro, wherein programming will be specifically curated to the environment of each individual library branch.
The temporary Riverdale AAC location is set to open in September, with a projected reopening for the MacArthur Park center set for early 2022.
Approximately 127,000 SF of expansions and renovations await the AAC after the remodel, including a new entrance exposing the original 1937 Museum of Fine Arts entryway, expanded studios and education spaces, a black box theater, a “family art adventure space” and an indoor/outdoor restaurant overlooking the park.
