One positive from this new normal we find ourselves in is the expanded access to art. Instead of having to skip an event because you can’t physically be there, you can tune in via Zoom or Facebook Live. This virtual gallery talk with Delta artist and Little Rock native Ajamu Kojo is no different.
On Tuesday, June 23, from noon to 1 p.m., Kojo will be in conversation with Toni Phinisey-Webber from the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site to discuss his painting, “Wakanda Don’t Cry.” Kojo’s painting is based on the famous photo of Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Little Rock Nine. Kojo will talk about his working methods, the AAC and what it’s like to be an artist working in New York City. Following the talk, Kojo and Phinisey-Webber will answer audience questions.
Kojo’s work is featured in the 62nd Annual Delta Exhibition, which elevates artistic voices from the American South and beyond. As one of the longest-running and most prestigious juried art exhibitions in the region, the Delta Exhibition represents the Arkansas Arts Center’s commitment to artists living and working in our community today – and to continuing to grow artistic talent in the region.
