After announcing its planned return to the stage last month, the Argenta Community Theater has officially released the full lineup for its 2021-2022 season.
Dubbed the “Grand Reopening Season,” the lineup offers theatergoers a mix of classic musicals, local traditions and some sassy Southern hilarity. Here’s what’s in store:
“Pippin”
Aug. 18-28
There’s magic to do when a prince learns the true meaning of glory, love and war in Stephen Schwartz’s iconic and unforgettable musical masterpiece. You won’t want to miss the grand re-opening production of this high-energy crowd favorite. The show will be directed by ACT producing artistic director Vincent Insalaco. ACT is back with a bang!
“Steel Magnolias”
Sept. 16-26 | produced in collaboration with Acansa
This iconic story follows six uniquely Southern women as they gather to gossip and share each other’s lives. “Steel Magnolias” celebrates the power of female friendship through the highest highs and the lowest lows. ACT’s collaboration with Acansa Arts Festival of the South returns with this beloved play. The show will be co-produced by Acansa and ACT and directed by Heather Norris.
“The Sound of Music”
Nov. 3-21 | produced in collaboration with Wildwood Park for the Arts
One of the most beloved musicals of all time! An exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. Presented in partnership with Wildwood Park for the Arts, this multi-venue production will be the largest family musical event of the season! This production is unique for Arkansas as it will be produced by both ACT and Wildwood. It will be directed by ACT’s Vincent Insalaco and music directed by Wildwood’s Dr. Bevan Keating. The show will run at ACT Nov. 3-13 before moving to Wildwood, where it will continue from Nov. 16-21.
“A Christmas Carol”
Dec. 8-18
The classic holiday tale of the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge returns to ACT for its final annual production in 2021. You’ll be filled with the spirit of the holidays when you return to the theater for this timeless story. Bring the whole family for this heartwarming classic! “A Little Night Music”
Feb. 1-6 | produced in collaboration with Opera in the Rock
Sondheim creates a stunning tour de force when he takes Ingmar Bergman’s comedy of manners, “Smiles of a Summer Night,” and turns it into a musical of masterful execution and elegance. This very special production is presented in partnership with Opera in the Rock. The show will be co-directed by Judy Trice and Vincent Insalaco with music direction by Opera in the Rock.
“Our Town”
March 9-19
Considered the greatest American play ever written, “Our Town” presents the town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager, the play depicts the daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families and reminds us that the simple things in life are often the most precious. Following the collective societal experience of a deadly pandemic, the message of “Our Town” is more poignant than ever. This show will be directed by Maj. Ben Grimes.
“The Wizard of Oz”
April 27 – May 7
We’re off to see the Wizard! This beloved American tale in which a Kansas girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home has entertained audiences for generations. ACT’s season of shows closes with a young person’s quest for knowledge, heart, courage and ultimately an appreciation for the unconditional love of home. This show will be directed by Vincent Insalaco.

COVID-19 safety measures for the show will be announced closer to showtime, and the theater encourages all audience members who are able to get their vaccine before attending an indoor performance.
