An Ode to The Afterthought

By now, most of you have heard the news that Afterthought Bistro and Bar — a Little Rock landmark since the ‘70s — is closing up shop.

Whether it was the open mic nights, the specialty drinks or the brunch menu (farewell, beloved shrimp and grits), many locals had a soft spot for the biz at Beechwood and Kavanaugh. So in honor of the restaurant’s final week of business, we decided to look back at some of our staff’s favorite dishes and memories at The Afterthought.

Goodbye, old friend.

The salmon bruschetta and the ahi tuna salad stole my heart every time. It is rare to find good ahi tuna in Little Rock, and I’m so sad I won’t be able to stop by and grab a bite!

My favorite memory there is Mother’s Day brunch last year. I had an omelette and my son Carter had a pancake; all the food was amazing! They even had a jazz musician. it was so nice.

-Bethany Johnson, Advertising Coordinator

The truffle fries were a fantastic late night treat at open mic night. They were definitely one-in-a-million kind of good!

-Devan Malone, Marketing and Research Manager

For me, I went to The Afterthought for the amazingness that was open mic night. As a Hillcrest resident, I will miss the Wednesday night adventure of walking down to The Afterthought and seeing what musical wonders the evening held… Whether you were singing along with an awesome local artist or cheering on someone that had the guts to just get up and try, open mic night was never an afterthought to my Wednesday evening. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.)
