All About Music: 4 Concerts to Top Your Calendar This Week

A lot of things are happening in the world of music this week. From country twang and classical-infused pop to rockabilly and jazz tunes, there is plenty of live music events happening around town.

Thursday (June 19)

Chris Knight: The singer-songwriter who penned songs for country gigs like Confederate Railroad, John Anderson, Randy Travis and others will be rolling through Little Rock playing some of his solo tracks released on several albums over the course of 14 years. Knight is well known in Texas for writing the hit Montgomery Gentry song “She Couldn’t Change Me” and because of his fame in Texas, was named an “Honorary Texan” in 2006 by Texas Gov. Friday (June 20)

“Night of the Proms”: The hottest ticket in Europe for three decades will be bring its one-of-a-kind classic-meets-pop concert tour to America– and North Little Rock– for the first time. This year’s featured artists Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, The Pointer Sisters and Nile Rodgers & Chic will come together for one night in North Little Rock on Friday, June 20 at Verizon Arena, performing their No. 1 hits on one stage backed by IL Novecento, Belgium’s world renowned classical orchestra; Fine Fleur, a 24 voice choir; and a 8-piece electric band headed by British pop star John “Music” Miles. Comedic opera diva Natalie Choquette adds her genius to complete an incomparable line-up. Tickets are $45, $83 and $99. Blake Shelton: Country star Blake Shelton will be making a stop on his “Ten Times Crazier Tour” with special guests The Band Perry, Dan + Shay and Neal McCoy at the arena. Grammy nominee Blake Shelton is CMA Awards’ reigning “Male Vocalist of the Year” for the 4th consecutive year, the 2013 recipient of “Album of the Year” for his current platinum-selling release, “Based On a True Story….” and is a coach on NBC’s Emmy Award-winning musical-competition series “The Voice.” Ticket prices will range from $42.50 and $69. Sonny Burgess’ 85th Birthday Celebration: Rockabilly artist Sonny Burgess & the Legendary Pacers will celebrate Burgess’ 85th birthday with an Arkansas Sounds concert at the Ron Robinson Theater at 7 p.m. They will be joined by Rodney Block, Bonnie Montgomery, Kevin Kerby, and Brad Williams and Nick Devlin of the Salty Dogs. This concert is presented by Arkansas Sounds, a project of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies focusing on Arkansas music and musicians both past and present.  Tickets are $10 general admission and are available at www.arkansassounds.org and at Butler Center Galleries, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.
