ACT Spotlight Celebrity Gala to Feature Hollywood Actors, Civil Rights Icon

The Judy Kohn Tenenbaum Argenta Community Theater (ACT) has announced plans for the 2023 ACT Spotlight Celebrity Gala, its annual fall fundraiser set to take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Argenta Plaza.

Headlining this year’s event is actor and writer Mara Wilson, best known for her roles in “Matilda,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Miracle on 34th Street.”

Coinciding with ACT’s opening of the Central High-based production “One Ninth” on Oct. 18, Little Rock Nine member Minnijean Brown-Trickey will also be a featured guest, as well as her daughter Spirit Trickey-Tawfiq, the playwright behind “One Ninth.”

Rounding out the lineup is actor Hisham Tawfiq, best known for his role as Dembe Zuma on NBC’s “The Blacklist” and whose resume includes stints at the Arkansas Repertory Theater.

The night’s activities include dinner, live performances and Q&A sessions with the special guests facilitated by longtime reporter Anne Jansen Broadwater, as well as a VIP reception at ACT.

Proceeds from the event will support productions and performing arts education at ACT and ACT II, the theater’s annex that opened last year and is home to the Sharon Heflin Education Center.

Tickets to the ACT Spotlight Celebrity Gala are on sale now. Learn more on the ACT website, and follow along on Facebook and Instagram for the latest.
