Spooky Season

Stylist and editorial contributor Josie Burnett didn’t need a crystal ball to know dreaming up our photo shoot for Monster Bash would be a fun one, or that she wanted co-chairs Casey Jo Clark and Maegan Waldrip to embody a vampy glam.

“Who doesn’t love Halloween?” Burnett says. “We went with dark tones to keep things moody, but not too spooky. These two lifelong friends looked so gorgeous — Casey in a green Gemy Maalouf and Maegan in a blue Amsale gown — and the makeup and hair complemented them perfectly. Upping the glam factor, Sissy’s Log Cabin has really unique estate pieces in store, and I love pulling them for shoots like this one. They can definitely be worn as ‘costume’ jewelry, but they can also be worn for galas and events.”

Standout Quote

“I wish more people realized that challenges don’t come one at a time.”

Blushing Beauty

When photographing Emma Grace Bradley for the American Heart Association, we knew just what section of the color wheel to turn to. A monochromatic backdrop of reds, pinks and maroons carried over into wardrobe and beauty where hair and makeup artist Lori Wenger mixed peachy pink eye shadows and blush for Bradley’s eyes, continuing the hues to her cheeks and lips for a youthful, warm, bronzy vibe.

Stacks & Stories

The Central Arkansas Library System spent two years renovating its downtown location after nearly three decades, and this month’s cover story afforded us a rare opportunity.

“One of the personal and professional highlights of my year has been watching the CALS Main Library transform,” art director Emma Devine says. “Being able to tour and photograph the space ahead of the reopening has been truly exciting.

“We wanted to show finished aspects of the building and also commemorate this moment in the library’s history by showing it as a work in progress. Audrey, Lisa and Martie were so wonderful to work with, and it was fun getting to watch their reactions of seeing all the books back on the shelves where they belong.”

Her Health Heroes

On our pages this month, you’ll find a new special section: Top Docs for Women. The list is a supplement to our more extensive annual Top Docs list in August and allows us to create a directory of exemplary physicians specific to the needs of women. By focusing on female-centric specialties, we’re able to help our readers — 70% of whom are women — make informed decisions about their own health care and that of loved ones. Cheers to the pros who made our debut list!
