WOMEN TO WATCH

Stacy Wilson

Owner/Designer
The Little Chick

My career started in residential and corporate aviation design. After the birth of my daughter, I decided to stop traveling. The Little Chick was born out of a need to design and create. I design nurseries, from the floor to the ceiling. My custom nursery bedding is handmade with painstaking attention to detail, and I also offer a wide range of baby and toddler accessories, toys and clothing. When I am not working, you will find me spending time with family and volunteering with the Junior League of Little Rock.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

Best moment of your career so far?

My bowties were featured in Southern Living, and The Little Chick has been voted Best Little Rock Children’s Boutique on the Little Rock A-List for 2014 and 2015. Repeat customers are also high on the list.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Stay focused on your goals. Be the best you can at whatever you do. Stay positive. Spend your life treating others as you would like to be treated. Be open to advice from your elders, as you just might learn something.

What is a typical workday like for you?

Email, packing and shipping orders, and then sewing/monogramming are my usual mornings. I meet with clients and stop by the stores, but after school is my daughter’s time. However, it is not unusual to see studio lights on well after dark.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I am ecstatic when I have designed a nursery and my client comes back for baby No. 2, or for their toddler’s room. It is such a great feeling to know someone loves my work enough to trust my creativity again.

Who is your role model?

My parents have taught me to be a hard worker, to have resilience and be kind to others. My husband has taught me to never let anyone tell me I can’t do something. They are my biggest supporters.

If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be and what would you order?

Martha Stewart. As much as we all love to hate her, she has built an empire, much of it based on knowledge she acquired from her parents and grandparents as a child — from sewing to gardening. I admire her resilience.

I wish I knew how to _______.

Play piano. I love classical music, and I am mesmerized by someone who can sit and play. I'm not musically inclined, but hope I can learn someday or at least my daughter can, so I can live vicariously through her.

How do you define success?

Success is when you are making a living doing what you love and enjoy going to work every day. I can't wait to get up every morning and get into my studio.
