After losing my mom and five of her siblings to Alzheimer’s, I felt a deep calling to act. When I discovered my employer’s affiliation with the Arkansas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, I saw an opportunity to make a difference. I joined the board to honor my family’s legacy and help advance the fight against this devastating disease.

I didn’t expect to need such a high level of emotional intelligence. Being able to navigate clients’ fears, hopes and life changes with empathy is vital.
What I learned from my first job
At my first job at the DMV in my hometown in California, I learned the importance of patience and how to serve others without expecting anything in return.

I wish people knew it’s more about understanding people’s goals and lives than just managing money. It’s deeply personal work.
