Family Promise Week Event to Help End Child Homelessness

Throughout the week of Oct. 21, Family Promise of Pulaski County will be hosting several activities benefiting the nonprofit. Family Promise specializes in helping homeless children and their parents find homes and stability by partnering with local church congregations.

“Family Promise, in partnership with hundreds of volunteers from our church partners, work with families to embolden them with the means to end their homelessness and not return to it, thus alleviating a cycle that could potentially span for decades,” executive director Cynthia Ramey says.

Here’s the event lineup:

  • Oct. 21: Partnering churches will be recognizing volunteers involved with Family Promise. A special offering benefiting Family Promise of Pulaski County will be collected in many congregations.

  • Oct. 23: Family Promise will host a Kendra Scott Jewelry Party from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at The Promenade. A percentage of each jewelry purchase will be given to Family Promise.

  • Oct. 25: Family Promise will host an open house at 721 S. Cumberland St. in Little Rock. Drop by any time between 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. for refreshments, tours of the day-center facility and information on how to get involved.

The organization began in Little Rock in 2005 with the help of local churches and organizations, as well as more than 900 volunteers. Family Promise serves approximately 75 people annually, with 68 percent being children under the age of 18.

“When we all work together to help those experiencing hardship, we are making a loud statement that we care about one another and our community, that we want to make a difference and that we want to see the results of being difference-makers,” Ramey says. “Family Promise helps us to realize those results.”

Family Promise Week starts on Oct. 21 and ends Oct. 28. For more information or to help Family Promise, head to the organization’s website or call 501.372.0733.
