WOMEN TO WATCH

Andrea Angel

Associate Vice Chancellor
UA Little Rock

UA Little Rock is here to serve our community and develop the intellect of students. As a proud alumna, I am honored to be a part of the team charged with growing the philanthropic support for our students. I love the type of university we are — engaged in the community and serving all types of students, from graduating high-school seniors, to working parents, to graduate students working to get a leg up. UA Little Rock is important in our community and I’m proud to be an advocate for our university.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

How I define success:

Success to me is balance. Finding a balance between work, home, friends and “me” time is the ultimate goal. I’m trying to make the journey to a balance in life a priority as I grow older and wiser!

Best advice I ever received:

My dad used to say to me as a kid, “The main thing here is not to panic.” That’s good advice in most all situations. I’ve told myself this numerous times in my career to put it all in perspective.

How I knew this was my passion:

I love to solve problems. Knowing that I can listen to people to find out how they want to help our university and put their goodwill to the right initiative is perfect for me.

Best career moment so far:

Serving as tournament manager for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship at Verizon Arena in 2008 was amazing. As a basketball junkie, running point on the largest sporting event ever to come to Arkansas was an honor and thrill for me.

Advice for my 18-year-old self:

Success doesn’t happen overnight. We spend so much time early in our career trying to advance, sometimes we forget to enjoy the ride. Enjoy it!

Most rewarding part of my job:

Hands down it is helping students. Knowing that generous people in the community want to provide assistance to help students is amazing. Reading the thank-you notes of students after they receive a scholarship is just awesome.

Favorite part of living in Little Rock:

Little Rock is the best of both worlds: big enough to have great local restaurants, activities and entertainment, but small enough to not feel like a big city. As a native Hoosier, I love my adopted home of Little Rock!

If I could lunch with any woman, it would be:

This is an impossible question! There is a group of six special women that I am close to in this town. They know who they are and any one of them is always the perfect lunch companion.
