Have Fun at Big Orange: Midtown This Summer With ‘Juice the Orange’ Events

For Big Orange: Midtown this summer, it’s all about fun.

Experience and taste all of the exciting (and delicious) things the popular restaurant, 207 N. University Ave., Suite 100, has planned for its “Juice the Orange” events.

Amber Brewer, brand manager and marketing director of Yellow Rocket Concepts, the team behind Big Orange, Local Lime, ZaZa’s, etc., gives us a rundown of what you can expect all summer-long.

From the Bar

Spring/summer cocktails: The restaurant’s cocktail list is out! They have 11 new cocktails for summer that range from the light and breezy MaiTai, to the effervescent Seelback and tangy El Diablo. In addition to the summer cocktail list, they will feature a barrel-aged cocktail every 4 – 6 weeks that has been aged in Gibbs Brothers handmade barrels (made in Hot Springs). Each cocktail on the list was paired with a specific musica album as inspiration. Look for photography to begin rolling out on their Facebook page soon that will showcase each album in Big Orange’s vinyl collection that was paired with a coordinating cocktail. You’ll also be able to listen to it at the eatery while sipping on one of the delicious cocktails!

Daily Specials

  • Mezcal Monday (starts first Monday in July): allows for individual Mezcals (either Tequila or Mezcal) to be featured neat or within a cocktail
  • Tuesday Brewday (special beer/sake): is set aside for tapping firkins of new beer, special brews, local collaborations, etc. Most Tuesdays won’t feature firkins, but when they have one to tap, they will do it on Tuesday. All beer dinners will also take place on Tuesday!
  • Whiskey Wednesday: Each wednesday, they will focus on a special whiskey at the bar where an off-menu cocktail featuring the whiskey will be made available. They want take one day every week to spotlight one whiskey, be it American, Irish, Scotch, Canadian, or Japanese.
  • The Green Hour on Thursday: Every other Thursday, they will focus on absinthe, exploring various types and methods of preparation, as well as cocktails that include absinthe and its history and culture. 
  • Tiki Time Friday: Each Friday from 5 p.m. to close, they’ll feature new and different Tiki culture-inspired cocktails in vintage tiki glassware, as well as a special dessert and aloha burgers with grilled, caramelized pineapple, Petit Jean bacon and Swiss cheese.
  • G & T Day (Saturday): Big Orange has an eclectic and delicious gin selection. Restaurant goers will be able sip on the drink of the day: a traditional gin and tonic cocktail.
  • Mimosas (Sunday): The resaturant will offer mimosas made with all-natural, just-squeezed orange juice for just $4 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. every Sunday.

From the Kitchen

The summer, Big Orange is featuring green bean tempura that is locally grown and tempura-fried  and the Arkansas Heirloom Caprese Salad made with locally grown, organic heirloom tomatoes, fresh-water mozzarella, fresh local basil, evoo and a housemade balsamic glaze. They will also feature a new pie every week on their dessert menu, as well as continue their SNACKCAKEShake series. Yum!
