The Soirée Insider: Winter-Workout Motivation

Hit the fitness slump already? Don’t worry; we’re here to help. For many of us, February is when our workout resolutions die despite our best intentions. After all, who wants to leave a toasty bed or comfortable sofa while binge watching a favorite show to brave frigid temperatures in the dead of winter? No one. This is where signing up for an indoor fitness class may help. There’s accountably and well, it’s inside. Here are five classes helping keep us on the fitness track this winter.

The Class: ZenCycle

Not your typical indoor cycling class, this one gets extra points for great music. While providing a serious full-body workout, this class is also fun! Fist pumping to club music while engaging the core and sweating off the pesky holiday pounds — that’s my kind of workout.

Where: ZenStudio, 5612 R. St and 27 Rahling Circle
When: Monday-Sunday; consult ZenSpinStudio.com for schedule

The Class: CrossFit

Enjoy a high-intensity, team-building workout? This one is for you.

CrossFit combines aerobic conditioning and Olympic weightlifting (Don’t worry, you start out with small weights) along with some other old-school training elements like kettlebells and tire flipping into daily workouts of the day otherwise known as WODs. This is a term you’ll get very familiar with and will either love or loathe.

Where: Razorback CrossFit at Little Rock Athletic Club, 4610 Sam Peck Rd.
When: Monday – Saturday; consult RazorbackCrossFit.com for schedule

The Class: Tango

Bust a move, burn a few extra calories and learn how to tango! What’s great about taking a dance class is that it’s something you can do with your spouse or friend and it definitely does not feel like a workout. Accountability? Not a problem. It does take two to tango.

Where: Arkansas Arts Center (Lower Lobby) 501 East Ninth St.
When: Art of Motion: Tango takes place the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Visit ArkArts.com for more information.

The Class: Pure Barre

Don’t be deceived. This class doesn’t look hard but you will leave feeling as though you’ve run a marathon. (Noodles for legs) Using a barre, or stationary handrail, the class moves through a variety of ballet positions concentrating on hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms. It’s low-impact but tough. You will feel the burn. No ballet experience necessary, thankfully.

Where: Pure Barre Little Rock, Pleasant Ridge Town Center, 11525 Cantrell Rd.
When: Monday-Sunday; consult PureBarre.com/AR-LittleRock for schedule

The Class: Hot Yoga

We’re hearing a lot about the hot yoga trend these days. It’s still the twisting, stretching and strengthening yoga you’re used to practicing but in a 95-100 degree heated room. Devoted yogis swear by its benefits. Some say it increases flexibility and burns additional calories. We know one thing is for sure: there will be sweat, and a lot of it. Namaste.

Where: Floating Lotus, 900 North University Ave, #4
When: Tuesday and Sunday; consult FloatingLotusYogaStudio.com for schedule
