Stone’s Throw Brewing to Open Beer Garden

Hold on to your koozies. Stone’s Throw Brewing is opening a beer garden.

You read that right. Earlier this week, the Little Rock City Board of Directors gave the ok to the nano-brewery’s plans to expand outside its walls. The project will increase indoor seating, extend hours and our favorite: add outdoor seating.

The space on the corner where food trucks normally park? That’s where the beer garden will be, fitting since it was originally created as a drive-thru for Baker’s Liquor store in the 1950s. The garden will also live up to its name as a place to grow herbs and hops for the brewery. And don’t worry about the food trucks; they’re just moving over to the north parking lot.

“The tap room is always packed at peak hours, and this will give our customers more room,” co-owner Shawn Tobin said. “Not to mention it will be an awesome place to enjoy a pint on a beautiful day.”

This will be the first beer garden in MacArthur Park since before the Prohibition. The corner of 10th and Rock streets, only a stone’s throw from Stone’s Throw, was once the home to Papa Geyer’s beer hall and garden, a staple in the Little Rock German community. The crew at Stone’s Throw even added a beer in his honor: Papa Geyer’s Pilsner.

As far as new hours go, starting May 1, Stone’s Throw will be open 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday, 12-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. You can also join the Cards Against Humanity League at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, trivia at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, new beer releases every first Friday, free tours at 1 p.m. and beer infusions at 4 p.m. on Saturdays and beer to-go on Sundays.
