“Radiant Affection” by Greg Lahti, 2022, oil on canvas, 15×30..
ABOUT THE PAINTING
“‘Radiant Affection’ portrays a young Canadian pilot with a plane she loves. Warm light catches her smile above the wing, while the aircraft’s engine fills the foreground. I wanted the painting to hold both sides of that relationship: the beauty and machinery of the plane, and the unmistakable joy of the person who flies it. “She first found me through a painting I made of an Arkansas crop duster. We got to talking about flying, and she shared photos of herself and her planes that inspired several more paintings. In this one, her affection for the plane was written all over her face. I wanted you to feel that before you knew any of the backstory.”
